A plane ride either way

As the week started, we were still in the Pacific Northwest, finishing up the college tours and enjoying the cool weather and the existence of an actual changing season.

We have two seasons in Austin: HOT, and cooler and rainy, plus a day or two of ice thrown in just for fun. With climate change we even see some snow now. But we for sure do not get the changing of the trees like we saw up there.

Their next stage, and ours

As we talked through our daughter moving to her next stage, Caroline and I also talked about moving to ours.

A lot of people were interested to hear why we are moving. Some parents (the helicopter variety) were shocked that we would move while our daughter is still in college.

Our answer is consistent and direct. We have an independent adult ready for her next chapter. Why does it matter where we live? It is a plane ride one way or another.

Some loved it. Others clutched their pearls. To each their own.

But this part is important. Moving abroad is not some small choice. If you are not fully comfortable making it, don't do it. What anyone else thinks, us included, should not matter.

Catch-up mode

When we got back, honestly, we were all tired, and very happy to see our four cats.

Caroline and I were also a bit behind after a full day of travel, so the next two days went to heads-down catch-up for our clients. By the weekend I was barely catching up on the laundry and ready for some chill time.

I did not want to think about the move or the preparation. One quick look at my email and another at the app, and nothing was pressing.

It was nice to not think about it and still know I was on track.

Ten Eleven Twelve

As I write this short note, I am about to head out for a little celebration. It is October 11th. For folks who know me, today is the anniversary of Caroline's and my first date: October 11, 2012. Ten Eleven Twelve. That is where the name of our fractional services company comes from.

So I am keeping this one short. She is always my priority, and we have a great evening of great food ahead of us at Truluck's here in Austin.

Next week

Normally this is where I tell you what is coming next week. Honestly, I do not know yet. I have not looked, and I have not needed to. That is kind of the point.

Drop me a comment or ask me a question: is your plan for a move abroad solid enough that you could stop thinking about it for a week?
